Lake with islands and a jetty, Westcott, Surrey
This landscaping project in Westcott, Surrey required both design and excavation expertise in creating a new half an acre lake containing a number of man-made islands and jetty.
The first part of the project was to excavate the designated area which involved cutting and filling the lake, leveling, layering and rolling every six inches. Then a layer of Terram 3000 geotextile was placed over the entire excavated hole. Terram geotextile provides an effective solution to constructing a stable granular layer over soft soil to prevent the intermixing of two layers.
The lake was then lined with a Butyl liner, totally UV stable and non-toxic to all forms of aquatic and plant life, to provide a watertight base for the lake. The team then covered the liner with one foot of topsoil for planting. Finally, a jetty was constructed on the side of the lake to create a secure platform for viewing. Once filled and planted, the lake looked as though it had been created by nature merging into the surrounding landscape perfectly.
