Industrial units, Warnham, West Sussex
This construction project in Warnham, West Sussex required RJ Sparks to convert some old cattle sheds into a series of industrial units.
The first stage of the project was to demolish the old sheds and recycle the residue concrete to create the base of the new units with the resulting hardcore being combined with type 1 scalpings to create the sub-base.
Due to the difference in levels of the old sheds, 600mm deep foundations were excavated and 16mm starter bars were added. This base was surrounded by a 230mm concrete block wall which was installed to create a split-level floor resolving the issue of the differing levels.
The second stage was to install water and electrical services to the new industrial units and then over the finished sub-surface lay 1440m square of concrete with a power-float finish. Powerfloat finishing is a common method of manipulating concrete as it dries to provide a hardwearing, durable finish with greater flatness or smoothness.
