Construction of a new silage pit, Newdigate, Surrey
Our agricultural groundworks team was hired to design and construct this bespoke, fully-compliant new silage pit for a farm in Newdigate, Surrey.
After installing the 150mm concrete panels to three metres high, supported with steel RSJs, we built the pit floor, which is finished with 150mm C40 concrete. C40 concrete is a particularly strong commercial grade concrete mix which ensures the floor is completely impermeable. The strength of the floor and walls of a silage pit, particularly the apron (front of the pit), is important to handle the weight of compacting machinery and the amount of traffic.
Safety is paramount too as there are high risks associated with silage storage, and our silage pits are sited and built to meet all the latest controls and regulations. If you would like guidance on the installation of a new silage pit, do get in touch with us at R J Sparks.
