Lake restoration, Beare Green, Surrey
When a Surrey lake or large pond is in good health it is an incredibly rich and varied habitat for wildlife. This lake in Beare Green had been neglected with overgrown vegetation contributing to the build-up of silt and sediment build up, excessive shade and erosion of the banks.
As environmental groundworks specialists, we understand how to restore a lake so that aquatic plant species and wildlife can flourish. We minimised the impact of these works by using environmentally-friendly silt pumping machinery and constructed a clay dam to stack, store and dry the silt.
The lake was heavily silted due to leaf drop from overhanging branches and shrubs. So, we removed and pruned overgrown trees and shrubs to minimise leaf litter, maintain lake edges and create a more open, sunnier aspect. Further landscaping included reshaping the banks to create a perimeter pathway.
